Goolwa Rally, 10th August |

Thursday, 07 August 2008 02:09 |
Dear all
Alexandrina Council Mayor Kym McHugh has invited the RLCAG members to a major rally at Goolwa on 10th August at 10:30am.
Location is the Hindmarsh Island Bridge and Goolwa Wharf.
"The purpose of the rally is to highlight the ecological disaster the Lower Lakes are facing through dangerously low water levels and flows. We need the immediate release of water held in upstream storages. With the release of a minimum of 250GL we will avoid an imminent ecological, social and financial disaster and go some way to restoring a healthy river and lakes system.
We are not about entering a blame game as we believe the Prime Minister and his government can make the release of water happen now.
Join us on this day and voice your concerns and that of your members to the Prime Minister and Premier Rann."
Bring your yellow t-shirts, posters, tortoises, banners and flags and show our concerns!
Regards
John Yelland

Stoptheweir.com has been forwarded the following email from Senator Simon Birmingham:
Firstly, congratulations to everyone involved in todays rally well done!
I know everyone who cares about getting more water released immediately to support the health of South Australias River Murray communities and the entire river system understands the need to maintain pressure on the Government, so I wanted to highlight an upcoming opportunity to you all
Kevin Rudd will hold his next Community Cabinet in SA on Thursday 14 August at at Hallett Cove School, 2-32 Gledsdale Road, Hallett Cove. This provides a good opportunity to keep the pressure on Mr Rudd, Senator Wong and the entire Cabinet.
Unfortunately, to attend the 1 hour public meeting (yes, thats all) starting at 6pm you need to register. Details on the meeting and how to register can be found at http://www.pmc.gov.au/community_cabinet/meeting.cfm .
Although I appreciate there are many protests and rallies taking up peoples time, money and energy at present, I encourage anyone who can make it to attend. Even if your attempts to register attendance are unsuccessful, there may be benefits in protesting outside of the meeting and trying to present demands, images or even a dead turtle to each of the Cabinet Ministers as they arrive.
If I or my office can assist any of you in organising this, please contact us.
Best wishes
Simon
PS please feel free to forward this on to as many people as possible.
